Nor-Cal member Randall White asks: "Can anyone offer any information on this little 15-inch gauge railroad?" (posted 9-21-06)

Randall writes: On a recent trip to Oregon I discovered this little 15-inch gauge railroad. It runs for a quarter mile or so from the shops to a campground in Fawndale, CA. It also runs further up the hill away from the road and out of view. I found it by accident. There was someone running a lathe in the shop but he coundn't hear me calling out for permission to enter and check out the 0-4-0T that was inside.

To the far left on a "roundhouse" track is the frame of a 2 cylinder Shay.

I looked on the internet but couldn't find anything on this neat little railway.

Answer: This is the BAD Great Northern Railway near Fawndale, California. This railroad is NOT open to the public. The answer was provided by the ever-helpful Rev. Phil. Go to www.dochemp.com/bigtrains.html for an article on this railroad.

This is the "roundhouse" with a gasoline-powered engine in front, on the shop track, and the frame for a Shay locomotive on the far left track. There is no turntable! The shop building is to the right, out of the photo.

The shop building, with the shop track indicated, and the "main line" below it.

Bob Isett's Train Room - with thanks to Bob, TCA 73-5712, for the photos. (posted 12-5-05)

Bob's train room is 9 feet wide by 40 feet long, with a two-level layout- Standard Gauge on the lower level and O gauge on the upper level.
