Rene Quihillalt's 15-inch gauge live steam locomotive and passenger car, on his outdoor railroad, shown with some neighbors. Rene and his son David have built a railroad up a hill on his property in Lafayette. The line, still under construction, is currently almost a mile in length, with multiple switchbacks, a timber trestle, a retaining wall, and other engineering features. The live-steam locomotive, which came from an amusement park in Napa, is fueled with wood or coal. The passenger car was built by Rene and David, and is patterned after a Maine 2-ft. gauge car.
